Chicago Trends Scoreboard Part 2

chicago trends scoreboard
Welcome to the Chicago Trends Scoreboard, brought to you by Logical Media Group (and Google Trends, of course)! Based out of the historic River North neighborhood, we hold firm to the belief that we live and work in the greatest city on earth. Therefore, each week we’ll dig into the data provided by Google Trends (a free tool!) and social media outlets that outline the topics most frequently searched by Chicagoans that week. We’ll also provide any relevant links to content surrounding those topics around the internet that might be of interest to our neighbors around town. We’d love to hear from you about our scoreboard, please contact kevin.hughes@logicalmediagroup.com with any questions or comments.

“How You Gonna upgrade me? What’s higher than number one?”- Beyoncé

On June 26, 1959 a 33-year-old Queen Elizabeth II became the first British Monarch to visit Chicago. Pregnant with her third child, Prince Andrew, she collaborated with Dwight Eisenhower to officially open the St. Lawrence Seaways, shipping channels to the Atlantic Ocean. This weekend Chicago welcomes a very different type of royalty, but a queen nonetheless. The timeless star recently discussed her own struggles with pregnancy, and the Chicago Beyhive is buzzing on Google about the two night show at Soldier Field this weekend.

“It’s Ok To Live A Life Others Don’t Understand” – Jenna Woginrich

Lollapalooza isn’t a music festival in Chicago, it’s the music festival. Hundreds of thousands of young (and maybe not so young) file into the Windy City to experience the loud, weird, fashionable festival that has become a staple in the city. It also happens to be one of the more fun Instagram weekends of the year. We can’t show the true essence of Lolla photos in this blog post, but the event absolutely dominates social platforms with a visual medley of colorful outfits and concert crowds. Rolling Stone, the gold standard of Rock & Roll reporting, shared their list of the favorite things they witnessed at this year’s festival.

“When life give you pizza, eat it quickly before anyone realizes that you have it.”- Anay

Chicagoans known for their kindness and easy going nature pertaining to just about any topic, but we’ll happily engage with anyone when it comes to pizza. New Yorkers took a saucy attitude this weekend to the announcement of a Pizza Museum opening in the South Loop. The debate between deep-dish and thin slice is acknowledged within the walls of the museum, and doesn’t technically take sides on the issue. Grab a ticket here and then grab a slice before (also after, if you want) you go enjoy the history of America’s favorite guilty pleasure.

“If you play to win as I do, the game never ends”- Stan Mikita

Blackhawks legend Stan Mikita passed away on Tuesday at 78 years old, his family announced. A Hawk for life, Mikita is the franchise career leader for assists, points, and games played, second only to Bobby Hull with 541 goals. Social media delivered an outpouring of sympathy for the family of the deceased, as well as memories and anecdotes about the legendary Chicago athlete. At just 5’9 he was known for his craftiness against larger opponents and dedication to Blackhawks, in addition to the whole city of Chicago. “I was proud to wear the Indianhead uniform for 22 years,” Mikita said honored before a 2008 home game.” Read the entire article from the Associated Press here.

“A celebration of encased meat”- The Chicago Reader

Last week Wicker Park Fest was the talk of the town, as it relates to the neighborhood festivals, but every dog has its day. To be fair, the hot dog owns most every day here in Chicago, but this weekend’s Chicago Hot Dog Fest, celebrating 125 years of Vienna Beef has locals drooling. It makes sense that a related topic on Trends would simply read “Beer,” as there should be enough sodium to wash down this weekend. Drinks will be served but the event is great for all ages, and even for people who like ketchup. Maybe.
